2009 Superbowl Puts Tampa In the Spotlight
The 43rd annual Super Bowl set to take place Feb. 1 at the Raymond James Stadium has had Tampa Bay, FLA officials working in overdrive for months, preparing for what will be the city’s third opportunity to play host to football’s biggest game of the year.
Super Bowl 2009 tickets have been selling for as much as $5,000 a pair on some Web sites and ticket outlets across the country, and the event is expected to draw more than 150,000 visitors to the Tampa Bay area.
According to the Tampa Bay Visitors and Convention Bureau, roughly 19,000 hotel rooms have already been booked for the week of Super Bowl, and ancillary businesses, including restaurants, retailers and tourism focused businesses are preparing some 100 individual events linked to the game.
