SC’s Strange Candidate Indicted on Obscenity Charges

A South Carolina grand jury indicted surprise U.S. Senate candidate Alvin Greene on Friday, August 13, on two charges, including a felony charge of showing pornography to a South Carolina college student.

Greene, an unknown who shocked the Democratic establishment by winning the state’s primary, was indicted for allegedly disseminating, procuring or promoting obscenity, a felony, and a misdemeanor charge of communicating obscene materials to a person without consent.

Greene told FoxNews.com on August 13 that “my lawyer’s dealing with it,” before hanging up. When contacted again for his lawyer’s name, Greene said, “It doesn’t matter.”

Greene was arrested in November after authorities say he approached a student in a University of South Carolina computer lab, showed her obscene photos online and then talked about going to her dorm room. Greene has not entered a plea and has refused to talk about the accusations in interviews.

Greene, 32, won a shocking victory in the June 8 Democratic primary. Greene’s accidental candidacy—in a state that has cornered the market in bizarre political theater—has made for a compelling spectacle. His disjointed responses to questions have become YouTube sensations. Yet as state Rep. Todd Rutherford puts it, “If this is a joke, he doesn’t get it, so it’s not funny.” State Democrats are struggling to figure out what to do about him. They recently voted to uphold his nomination, reasoning that he appeared to have won the Democratic primary legitimately capturing 59% of the ballots. The unemployed military veteran handily defeated Vic Rawl, a former lawmaker and judge who had been considered an easy win by the party establishment.

But now they’re saddled with a candidate who’s facing multiple legal predicaments. There’s the obscenity case, which Greene refuses to discuss (he hasn’t entered a plea and no trial date has been set; his public defender didn’t return a call for comment). A watchdog group, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), has filed a complaint [PDF] with the Federal Election Commission, arguing that Greene failed to file necessary forms to run (the FEC says it’s investigating). And the State Law Enforcement Division in South Carolina is probing whether Greene lied on his affidavit of indigency, according to someone with knowledge of the inquiry who’s unauthorized to discuss it, a SLED spokesperson declined to comment.

All of this havoc has prompted many state Democrats to suspect a dark conspiracy at work to help Republican Sen. Jim DeMint get reelected. “I don’t know if he was a Republican plant,” said U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn after Greene’s victory. “He was someone’s plant.” Such shenanigans have occurred before in South Carolina. In 1990, a GOP operative paid the filing fee for an unemployed black shrimper to run in the Republican primary, hoping his presence would boost white turnout. If Greene’s candidacy were the work of a dirty trickster, it would surprise almost no one. Yet in South Carolina political circles, another possibility appears to be gaining currency: that this was entirely Greene’s doing. “I think he did it on a lark,” says state Senate minority leader John Land, who lives in the same county.

Up to that point, Greene had done no visible campaigning and had no website, fundraising or staff. In the months since, Greene has given a series of awkward interviews to reporters clamoring for more information on the unemployed man who lives in Manning with his ailing father. In one interview, he suggested that the state’s economy could be improved by making and selling action figures depicting him in his uniform.

Last month, Greene gave his first public speech, a 6 1/2-minute recitation of his previous comments and commitment to jobs and education. He now has a website and says he has raised less than $1,000.

Green now faces Republican US Senator Jim DeMint in the fall election, a popular incumbent who has raised more than $3 million for his campaign.

My Take: This is just plain weird. Maybe somebody should call a California lemon law attorney because this guy seems like he’s busted in the head. Yes, I know that CA lemon law lawyers only handle cases of products that cause damage because of workmanship or something to that effect. But this guy really is off his rocker.

As far as I can tell he doesn’t seem to be married so he’s not gonna be in need of an Austin TX divorce lawyer. I can’t see why anyone would want to marry him anyway. If one did marry him it would not take her long to hire an Austin divorce law attorney.

Different Environments in Minecraft

There are a lot of different environments that a person can experience in Minecraft and when a game is initialized, a person can actually walk forever and see different types of biomes from ones that are made totally of desert to mountainous regions and areas of plains. And when a fantastic amount of detail is placed into the zone, it creates quite a strain on personal computers so people usually start to use Minecraft hosting because it’s much easier to have a Minecraft hosted on another computer rather than try and house it entirely on a home PC.

Air Cargo Security

Air transport is a vital component of many international logistics networks that is essential to managing and controlling the flow of goods from factories to final destinations. Sometimes cargo handling requires that the handlers where Carhartt workwear for safety. Such clothing made be flame resistant clothing or even steel-toed boots. Whatever the airport cargo is, it is usually thoroughly inspected and goes through various detection devices for safety and security of not only the plane but the ground crew. It also ensures that the products to their destination in good condition.

UFO Cover-Up by Winston Churchill?

The UK’s Ministry of Defense has released new files that suggest the once Prime Minister Winston Churchill ordered a UFO cover-up during World War II. On August 4, as part of an ongoing project to declassify government reports related to UFOs, the Ministry of Defense and The National Archives released almost 5000 pages of information that was acquired between British authorities and the public on UFO sightings.

One of the letters was from a man claiming his grandfather was present at a wartime meeting with Churchill and U.S. General Dwight D. Eisenhower.

The declassified letter from 1999 redacts the names of the sender and his grandfather, but says the two leaders were briefed on a UFO incident reported by a Royal Air Force (RAF) bomber crew.

While returning to Britain from a mission in Germany, the crew was reportedly approached by a metallic UFO on the English coast. The crew even took photographs of the UFO, the letter said.

The writer said that the UFO appeared to “hover noiselelessly” and then suddenly disappeared.

UFO Report Would Create ‘Mass Panic,’ Churchill Allegedly Said

Upon hearing the story, Churchill allegedly ordered that it be kept secret for 50 years or more.

“This event should be immediately classified since it would create mass panic amongst the general population and destroy one’s faith in the Church,” the letter claims he said.

The writer asked the Ministry of Defense if it could confirm the incident and if the event was still classified.

In response, the Ministry of Defense said it could not find any written record of the incident. But it also said that before 1967, all UFO files were destroyed after five years, so any UFO documents from World War II era would most likely have been destroyed.

The trove of documents, which totals 18 files from 1995 to 2003, also discloses details on a few other famous UFO sightings in the U.K.

One of the reports contains a drawing of a UFO “20 times the size of a football field” that was spotted by a member of the public near the Manchester Airport on Jan. 6, 1995. The captain and first officer of a 737 en route to the airport allegedly reported a “near miss” with an unidentified object the very same day, the report said.

Slightly Off-Topic Breach: This boy should have been flying in POW MIA flag outside his hotel room. Why? He was a prisoner of circumstance. When he got his chair, he should have flown a couple of Betsy Ross flags off the back to show he was once again free!

U.K. Officials: UFO Claims Not of Defense Significance

Another report reveals information about a 1980 event often described as “Britain’s Roswell.”

In December of that year, U.S. Air Force security police in Rendlesham Forest in Suffolk, England said they saw bright lights moving toward the ground. The patrolmen said they saw a UFO in the forest and later found marks on the ground and trees and higher than expected levels of radiation. A couple of days later, other air force personnel reported seeing more unexplained lights in the forest.

According to the report, the Ministry of Defense investigated the claims and found “nothing of defence concern.”

Although the new documents have some generated buzz within the UFO community, some Ufologists say that one of the most interesting things about the new files is what they do not include.

“It’s good to see and there were some interesting tidbits in there,” Stanton Friedman, a nuclear physicist and author of the book “Crash at Corona: The Definitive Study of the Roswell Incident.” But he added, “I see no evidence that there are any top secret documents and the hot stuff is going to be top secret, not secret.”

UFO Expert: Officials Likely Not Disclosing the Most Important Information

He said the government released the documents because it had been inundated with requests for information about UFOs and “they want to get us off their backs.”

But Friedman emphasized that the most revealing information is most likely missing – and will most likely stay missing for quite a while.

He said the people likely monitoring UFO reports of national security significance are most probably not the same ones mentioned in the correspondence released this week. But he said he’s convinced someone is indeed paying attention to those kinds of top secret reports.

“Clearly there’s got to be somebody, somewhere, unmentioned in this whole thing, who is looking at the best stuff, because there are implications, for the military, for example,” Friedman said. “We need to recognize that the discussion is incomplete.”

“We need to recognize that we’re sitting on a pile of significant information but the world is in a precarious situation right now,” he said. “Economies are not doing so great. Do you really want to do something that throws a monkey wrench into everything?”

He also stated that it is doubtful that any missing information will be forthcoming anytime soon.

My Take: I believe it! Yes, I am one of those UFO nuts. Well, I’m not in a class of some of the crazies out there, but I do believe that there is life elsewhere in the universe and that it’s possible they have visited this planet. Right now, I actually think the commercial mortgage brokers are aliens because I am trying to buy a business. And the reason for that is because they speak a totally different language than I do!

I thought commercial mortgage loans would be easier to handle. I was definitely wrong! I am going through my electronic cigarette cartridges so fast, it’s amazing. I’m glad I’m not smoking regular cigarettes anymore. I would never be able afford it! Electronic cigarettes are so much cheaper in the long run. Most people call them e cig for short. Njoy puts out a pretty good e-cigarette. There’s a couple other companies that make them as well.

Shark Week - Another Reason to Party

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

Cited: ABC news

It is Shark Week! Thanks to the Discovery Channel, Shark Week is is dedicated to sharks and runs August 1-7. This is the 23rd annual Shark Week and he gives college students another reason to party because it is just before school begins. So put on your best shark costume and cook up your favorite ocean inspired dishes and invite your friends over for a party!

“It’s kind of a strange week,” said 22-year-old Matt Kelly, a college graduate in San Diego who is hosting marine-themed events every day this week to celebrate Shark Week. “It’s made out kind of as a holiday.”

Shark Week is a week-long series of programming on the Discovery Channel dedicated to — you guessed it — sharks. Aug. 1 marked the start of the 23rd annual Shark Week.

In Illinois, Northwestern University students Terri Shih and Claire Christenson celebrated their first Shark Week with a costume party the evening of August 4 at their apartment in Evanston. Shih, 21, dressed up as a shark and served snacks such as shark-shaped cookies and fish gummies. “[Shark Week] kind of just seems like something that everyone already knows about and talks about,” Shih said. “Everyone’s Facebook statuses are about Shark Week.” After hearing all of her friends talk about the “epic” footage on Shark Week’s shows, Shih said, “It was kind of hard to not get really excited about it.”

In New York, 19-year-old Crystal Blodgett, a student at the Continental School of Beauty in New York, will be hosting her third Shark Week party this Saturday at her home in Rochester. She will serve shark-related snacks, such as cupcakes topped with blue frosting and gummy sharks; “chum punch,” a red fruit punch made to look like fish chum; and cups of blue Jell-O with a gummy shark in it. Guests will play a version of Jeopardy that Blodgett created and dubbed “Jawpardy.” She expects the total cost of the party to be around $50.

Other students spend a little more on their Shark Week celebrations. Miami University student Abby Pautz shelled out about $300 to throw her first Shark Week party in Ohio last Saturday. Many guests wore costumes and temporary shark tattoos. Some even decorated their cars. The menu included Swedish fish, shark fin cupcakes and Twinkies dipped in frosting and decorated to look like sharks. To top it all off, Pautz served a cake featuring a shark popping out with a Barbie doll in its jaws, a creation she and her friend spent hours making. But the shark frenzy doesn’t stop there. Pautz and her friends are ordering T-shirts that say “Shark Week is JAWESOME.”

Blodgett said she’s noticed more of her college friends participating in the event this year: “I used to never see it on Facebook, but this year I saw like 20 people on my friends list were talking about Shark Week.”

So why are college students so fascinated with a week of TV shows featuring sharks? “I think it’s something that is exciting and cool to watch,” Shih said. “It’s really fascinating. If I were to encounter a shark on a beach, I would probably freak out, but I just can’t stop watching it.”

Blodgett said, “I think people just think it’s kind of a cool concept that Discovery Channel dedicates a whole week to this one animal.”

Kelly pointed out that Shark Week’s timing is perfect for get-togethers.

“It’s right at the end of summer before a lot of people are going back to school,” he said. “As people are coming back to school to get settled down for the next year, it’s a good end-of-summer, beginning-of-the-next-school-year type of time.”

This JAWESOME week gives students a chance for one last summer party before knuckling down with the books.

My Take: Party time! Well, party time is just about over and school is about to begin. Teachers are about to ring the brass bells. At least, that’s what they used to do when school began. It’s time to get out those personalized sticky note cubes to leave yourself messages about tests and finals. It is time to tell DJ Michelangelo the party is over and it’s time to go home. No matter how much you want that techno music to continue, it is time to shut it down.

Now there is another reason to put on those eyelash extensions and fraternity clothing. It is called school. Every college student needs Greek apparel to fit into their sorority or fraternity. And the young ladies better stock up on our eyelash extension products to make sure they have enough for the school year. Students, don’t forget to get some personalized custom gifts to them pressure professors with, they are much better than apples.
