Treat Back Aches With The Alexander Technique
The Alexander Technique New York schools are pushing the same fundamental principals of this unique alternative health care practice as those in other countries across the globe. What is it? It is a health care practice that incorporates simple self-perception and manipulation of muscles and the spine to alleviate back pain. It has been in use by thousands of trained practitioners all over the world since it was introduced to the mainstream back the late 1800s by F. Matthias Alexander.
It can also be used to promote rehabilitation after injuries and boost breath control and for the following:
- Chronic pain conditions: back, neck, joints
- Headaches
- Tension, stress and anxiety
- Posture and spinal problems
- Rehabilitation needs: post-operative, trauma, auto accident
- Those interested in:
- Self improvement
- Development of potential and creativity
Most teachers of the Alexander Technique provide lessons through a combination of hands-on and verbal directions and, contrary to popular belief, it is NOT like Yoga or Pilates. These lessons, which may last from half and hour to an hour, are used to guide students, or “patients,” in the learning of more efficient ways to perform everyday physical activity, such as walking, standing, sitting, working on a computer or other work functions. Actors, musicians, athletes, even tuberculosis and asthma patients use the technique to improve their breathing quality.
